A beautiful winter garden to inspire

November 23, 2018

The gorgeous Slingsby Gin collaboration garden at The Ivy Harrogate.

My current chief preoccupation is the search of Christmas décor inspiration, especially for the garden, so I was very pleased to be invited to the first birthday of The Ivy Harrogate and the launch of its magical winter botanical garden in partnership with Slingsby Gin.

I just love this wreath. I’m going to try to copy it using a bargain faux tree wreath I’ve bought from the garden section at The Harrogate Antiques Centre at Pannal.

The roaring fireplace is the highlight and centrepiece. I’m not sure I can stretch to copying that in time for Christmas at my house, but I have taken note that warmth is essential if you plan to do any outdoor entertaining in winter, so I have invested in a fire pit and an electric pedestal heater for my back yard.

The whole garden is sheltered with huge green garden umbrellas, and the throws are a lovely touch, very cosy.

Back to The Ivy Harrogate and Harrogate florist Helen James has transformed the garden with wreaths, trees and foliage, plus a botanical installation with juniper berries and warm winter tones, candles, lanterns, fairy lights and cosy throws with Slingsby Gin branding. I’ll just add here that Slingsby’s Rhubarb Gin is completely delicious.

I think I might try adding foliage to my garden plants and trees.

The Ivy Harrogate bar and Slingsby mixologists have created three new cocktails and the Slingsby garden will remain until January 27, so plenty of time to check it out. I will post pictures of my (hopefully) transformed back yard when it’s ready.
In other news, it’s a packed weekend and I’m just off to the Christmas fair at Ripley Castle, which runs until this Sunday. This is always a fab event, although I hope not to spend too much on new decs this this. I will, of course.
