A pitstop in Helmsley

August 24, 2017 | 1 Comment

Forgetting my car picnic  when on a far flung job deep in the heart of the North York Moors turned into an unexpected pleasure recently. It meant I had to stop off in Helmsley on the way home for food and water. Not only did I find a great little home bakery,  I discovered Bowley and Jackson. I’d heard about this shop from a friend so I popped in to see what all the fuss was about.

It is one of those lovely little independent stores that is a cornucopia – stocking everything from lighting and fabric to the odd bit of furniture and lots of home accessories with gardenware and some vintage bits and bobs thrown in.

The best thing about places like this is that you never know what you might find. I love the little herb pots below.

And you always see something a bit different…like these fab loo roll holders, signs and hooks, pictured below.

I was rushing and was so overwhelmed with the amount of things I loved, I didn’t actually buy any of them. So I’ve vowed to go back to Helmsley for a proper day out …and a swim. Among this market town’s many, many charms is  an open air pool, https://www.helmsleyopenairpool.org/

Helmsley really is a very charming place, but I didn’t know they have an open air pool!
The shop looks like something I’d like to browse in, even though I’d probably not buy anything, just enjoy looking (not what the shop keepers really want, I know!).
