All because… we love finding vintage treasures for your home

September 10, 2020

Satellite chair, picnic case, fluffy stool and jewellery including Sharon’s hand-made vintage button earrings.

Did you know that Gorgeous Yorkshire has its very own vintage shop in Harrogate? As well as being newspaper journalists, stylists, mums and partners, interiors obsessives, travellers, diners, decorators, upcyclers and generally mad middle-aged wimmin, we also love to spend as much time as we can seeking out vintage treasures in the hope that people who love quirky gorgeousness as much as we do will buy them. We are very reasonable with our prices, by the way.

Fabulous formica table, plus unusual enamel fruit bowl, a Warburton’s commemorative plate with all the packaging, cool Hockney Saltaire print, retro garlic bread dish (it’s the future) and dimple beer glasses (remember those?).

Anyway, in October last year, we opened our lovely unit at the utterly fabulous 53 Bo’ Grove in Harrogate (which is on Grove Road, opposite the school and behind the fire station on Skipton Road).

Some lovely stuff here – vintage jugs, glass dessert dish and bowls, doggie bookends, china, a butter dish, Snoopy books, cat ornaments – and take a close look at Mr and Mrs Before & After on the bottom shelf, first at school and then on their wedding day. Aw.

It’s hard to believe how Bo Grove has developed over the past year, thanks to the hard work, dedication, talents and vision of Kyrensa, founder and owner. She never ever stops. Lockdown did not see it falter and indeed saw the development of the outdoor garden and salvage area (also featuring the Soft Pots garden). And – big news – 53 Bo’ Grove is taking part in the Ripley Decorative Home and Salvage Show this weekend (September 11-13) see here for deets. We promise Kyrensa will be taking along some utter fabulousness so do not miss it.

An amazing vintage leather suitcase – has the initials J.K. – vintage hat box, retro picture print table, and two matching upcycled laundry baskets in cream and matte grey.

There is a cafe (it’s really delicious – try the avocado and spinach on toast, and the cakes and buns are out of this world), and a farm shop for fresh veg and cheeses and so on, and a bike tours operator, and The Refilling Station, staffed by the marvellous Lydia and Jude, who are both so clever and knowledgable about all matters eco-friendly (and they look wonderful). This is where you can take your own receptacles and fill up with dried foods, oils, cleaning products, shampoos and more. I adore their noodles, as they will testify.

Drinks cabinet upcycled in grey and bright orange, wooden boxes, thimbles and Whimsy animals, vintage lamp (all our lighing is PAT tested), sconce cherub.

And then there is the vintage emporium itself – the heart of this ever-growing Harrogate destination. Every day, more and more people discover it, and the place rings with “oooooos” and “aaaahhhs” and “wow” and “I never knew this was here!”

Fabulous coral retro fruit bowl. What more can we say?

It is a seriously amazing place – and we are not just saying that because we are part of it. There are two floors featuring several traders plus lots of beauty sourced by Kyrensa herself – she is an indefatigable seeker of treasure.

We have lots of lovely pictures, some originals. This is Monet by Manet (but we don’t think it’s an original).

So there is vintage and retro furniture, vintage fabrics, retro lighting, vintage tools, vintage books, old pictures, vintage glassware, ornaments and china, vintage mirrors galore, toys, fashion, luggage and accessories and finds from yesteryear that have been waiting to add character and beauty to new homes. The staff, by the way, are all amazing and so helpful. There is always someone about to help you transport treasure to your car (yes, there is parking!).

Wonderful retro table lamp, Wedgwood trinket boxes, children’s map table, vintage brooches (we have a selection of vintage necklaces too – very cheap, great quality), red retro glass vase and more of Sharon’s famous button earrings.

We love 53 ‘Bo Grove and we want to share it with everyone. So come on down and see what we and all the other traders have got. Here is a link to the fab new webside to show and tell you more about 53 ‘Bo Grove.

Aren’t those sugar and flour jars divine? And the orange glassware, and the oil painting and the vintage cocktail dress (size 10, heavenly on) – and where did we get that hat?
