Preparations are underway for the Ilkley Vintage Fair and it’s all set to be bigger and better than ever. It’s tomorrow, Saturday, October 31, from 10am to 4pm. The venue is the Ilkley Playhouse, which is at the bottom end of the town centre, just off the A65 on Weston Road. There’s vintage fashion and homeware from the 1920s to the 1980s, vintage hair and makeup specialists and tea, coffee and cake at the vintage tearoom. Admission is just £1 (under 16s free). I’ll be there with everything from furniture and ceramics to books and various bits and bobs.
I’m looking forward to browsing the other stalls for some Christmas pressies (as I write there are only 55 days and 14 hours to go – according to www.xmasclock.com. Yikes!). My family enjoy unwrapping my finds, which always raise a smile and prompt bursts of nostalgia. I’ll be paying a visit to the incomparable Jennifer Bird of 20th Century Crox – her amazing retro glass and ceramics are first class and she really knows her stuff. Rose & Brown Vintage never fail to impress with their quirky, one-off treasures and then there’s Diane of Renee Cottage Vintage Crafts with fabrics, linens and haberdashery – the quality is exceptional compared to today’s textiles.
Here are some items that will be on the Gorgeous Yorkshire stall. My favourite is a beautiful 1960s print by Spanish artist Ortiz Alfau. I love it so much you might have to wrench it from my hands if you want to buy it.
I also have a “map table” showing the world’s most romantic city. The retro plates that remind me of Marimekko designs are back. They look great on a plate stand or displayed on a wall.
Then there’s my Veteran Series filing drawer (great for storing old photographs and cards) and my button earrings.
Hope to see you there for vintage fun, chat and a trip down memory lane.
