All the fun of the Country Living Christmas Fair

November 19, 2018

It’s that time of year when Christmas deadlines have sent us into a panic at work and we desperately need some downtime. We also need to trim up at home and by cards and presents so hurrah for the Country Living Christmas Fair in Harrogate.

It’s an annual event at the Harrogate Convention Centre – this year it is on between November 29 to December 2 –  and we look forward to it as it’s a visual feast with lots of festive items and gifts for sale.  The fair attracts stall holders from all over Britain and there’s a big contingent from Yorkshire, including plenty of artists, makers and food producers.

One of our favourites is Anita Bowerman who paints the most wonderful scenes for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity Christmas cards.  There are four designs, including The Yorkshire Shepherdess, aka famous hill farmer Amanda Owen, pictured with her flock of sheep and sheepdog. Amanda, 43, lives with her husband Clive and their nine children at Ravenseat in Upper Swaledale, North Yorkshire – one of the highest, most remote hill farms in England.

The profits from the sale of each pack of Christmas cards is donated back to the charity, helping them to raise the £12,000 they need each day to keep both of their helicopters in the air. You’ll find the cards on Anita’s stall or they can be bought directly from the YAA website: www.yaa.org.uk £4 for 10 cards and envelopes and includes postage or from anitabowerman.co.uk and yorkshireshepherdess.com

Here are some other Yorkshire makers who will feature at the fair: We love these Christmas stockings by Peonie Cole a lifestyle brand created by textile designer Catherine Cole.

Moneeza from Leeds owns Lotus Blu Books, a book bindery business which she runs with her aunt and mother. She makes beautiful journals, watercolour books and wedding guest books.

We will also be making a beeline for Little Weaver Arts, which features homeware with drawings of wild and domestic animals, including these festive donkeys.

Kitty Pennybacker specialises in knitwear for the home and her designs are all orignal.

Tickets to the Country Living Fair are £12.50 in advance www.countrylivingfair.com. The event also has a lively programme of talks, demonstrations and workshops plus a champagne bar and bistro. You can see the full programme here
