Have I told you lately that I love you? Probably not, but, well, February is allegedly the most romantic month of the year, what with Valentine’s Day and all that. We’ve got a few ideas about how to express the love, feel the love – or, if nothing else, have a lovely meal.
Try a romantic escape to The Principal Hotel, York, from £145 per room which includes bed, breakfast & evening meal in the heart of York in a hotel which is right next to the station (so not far to travel with your bags). It’s a special offer with three course dinner and traditional Yorkshire breakfast for two, and the hotel suggests lovers also try wrapping up warm and walking hand in hand around York Minster and the city’s Roman walls and then taking Afternoon Tea for two in the elegant Garden Room, with views of the minister in the distance. Sounds delicious. Simply call the Principal York reservations on 01904 653681 and quote WINTER WARMER. Offer is valid until 30th April 2019.
The Ivy Victoria Quarter Leeds has created a limited edition cocktail and dessert to help lovers celebrate Valentine’s Day. Exclusively available for one day only on Thursday, 14 February, the Passion Fruit Cosmopolitan has Skyy passion fruit vodka, Cointreau, cranberry juice and a hint of passion fruit and lime. The Valentine’s Day dessert, meanwhile, is called the ‘Key to your heart’ and it’s a Raspberry Sorbet with white chocolate sauce and a sprinkling of rose petals. Reservations can be made by calling 0113 388 6222 or online via www.theivyleeds.com
Harrogate is always romantic, in our opinion, and you could try Valentine’s Day at The Tannin Level, with its cosy corners, quiet alcoves and church candles flickering on every table. There is a special Valentine’s Menu from Tuesday 12th to Friday 15th February. Check out: https://tanninlevel.co.uk/valentines-day-at-the-tannin-level/
Other suggestions for Valentine dining in Harrogate include Stuzzi, William and Victoria, La Feria, Hotel du Vin, The Ivy, Gino’s and Veeno (which does lovely sharing boards). For gifts, head to King’s Road just up from the International Centre, to Shine, which has beautiful jewellery and cards, really reasonable and different, and to King’s Road Florists, where you can buy fab vases and candles alongside a heady selection of blooms and foliage.
That’s it for now. More suggestions coming.
