It’s been a tumultuous and divisive year what with Brexit and Trump. Now we hear that the great poet and songwriter Leonard Cohen has died, just at a time when we need more music, poetry and art to soothe our souls.
So, in the spirit of supporting the arts, we thought we’d tell you of a lovely gallery run by two lovely people in a lovely part of Yorkshire – you can’t have too much loveliness! It’s called Bils and Rye and is run by husband and wife team Nick and Kate Bentley. They recently moved the gallery from the tiny Ryedale village of Nunnington to bigger premises in Market Place, Kirkbymoorside, and specialise in contemporary sculpture, ceramics and paintings, along with greetings cards if you can’t afford the “big stuff”.
I’m looking forward to a Christmas exhibition that opens on November 19 in collaboration with Sir Paul and Lady Edwards. It features several Yorkshire artists, including David Venables who painted this picture. I love it not least because it is rural and restful. Looking at it takes you away from it all and that’s just what we need right now.
