I was driving around out of Harrogate towards Killinghall the other day and decided to take a left down a little lane that has been intriguing me.
It has a sign saying “Cook Shop this way”. I drove down a little while and soon found myself in a farm yard, off which were more signs pointing to Cottages, Camping, Cookware and Coffee shop.
This was the welcome to Cooking Fantastic at the fabulously named The Cud Life at Spruisty Hall Farm.
I can’t believe I’ve lived close by all this time and not discovered this before. Who doesn’t love kitchen paraphernalia, even if you are not exactly Mary Berry?
The cookware shop is a treasure trove of cookware products of all price ranges, from potato peelers and pans to pickling jars and pressure cookers. The egg cup collection is a comprehensive wonder in itself.
Where possible, all products are sourced and made in the UK, and it stocks the Silverwoods bakeware range and cake decorating equipment.
It also hires out cooking and baking equipment from cake tins to fish poachers, gives advice and recipes and has its own eggs. Speciality cake tins hire at £3.50 for 3 days, and can come with a recipe. Cupcake stands cost £5 each for 3 days.
On its website – http://www.cookingfantastic.co.uk/– there are loads of recipes, information, tips and ideas as well as products, which can be be posted out to you on the same day, if you email.
The Cooking Fantastic mantra is Tried, Trusted, Tested, which is reassuring, and it prides itself on its advice. It used to have a shop on the High Street in Knaresborough, before relocating to Killinghall. I might pop in there again later today, this to try the cafe.
It’s open Thursday, Friday, Saturday; 10.00 to 6.00
