Dear Emma, aka Cathy Emmott, is one of my favourite Yorkshire designer makers. She specialises in handmade textile art, which she creates in her HQ – a little shed in the garden of her home, near Settle. It is packed with a wonderful jumble of cottons, linens and a vast collection of haberdashery, some of which finds its way into her house – a veritable vintage palace with pieces from the 1920s to the 1970s.
Work is a labour intensive operation that involves appliqué and freehand embroidery stitched on to new and vintage fabrics.
My favourite range is the Blue Tit, which features on everything from little linen baskets and tea cosies to lampshades and brooches
Textile artist Cathy also has Greenfinch, VW and Houses designs. Visit www.dear-emma.com
