We have some great independent interiors shops in Yorkshire and the latest addition has scored 11/10 on the Gorgeous Yorkshire “Wow-ometer”. Dowsing & Reynolds has opened a store in the Victoria Quarter in Leeds after trading successfully online for seven years and winning prestigious retail awards and a legion of famous fans.
Why do we love it? It specialises in those hard-to-find items, such as stylish handles, light switches, sockets, bulbs and taps, along with its own paint, real moss- for those fashionable moss walls and arrangements, and a whole lot of other fabulous homeware.
Another reason we fell in love with it is the store design. Set over two floors, it was created by founders James and Ally Dowsing-Reynolds with help from interiors doyenne Karen Knox from Making Spaces and from retail psychologist Kate Nightingale from Style Psychology.
The shop has a dedicated section for each area of the home, including a bedroom with some fantastic lamps and pendants and a bathroom built to house the taps and rainfall showers (the gold shower is our favourite).
The walls are decorated in “Mud Wrestling”, a deep grey paint also on sale at Dowsing & Reynolds. This adds to the cosy, welcoming atmosphere, which we think is also enhanced by the owners and staff who are all really friendly and helpful.
We spotted TV’s Linda Barker while we were browsing and she was also impressed with the originality and style of this independent business. We’ll certainly be back with a shopping list.
