It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, March 6, and I have been wondering what to buy. Flowers and chocolate are a safe bet, of course. Who doesn’t love those kind of treats? But here are some alternatives gifts for the woman who gave you life and love.

These socks – there are three of them – are useful, quirky and beautiful. They are Odd Pears socks, which have come all the way from Australia. There are two matching socks and one slightly odd for when you ant to mix things up a bit, or when (and this is most likely) you lose one of them. They cost £9 from Ilkley-based online store Haykin
