Bridlington is basking in some much-deserved limelight right now thanks to the film version of Dad’s Army. The movie was filmed in and around the town and reveals Brid’s many charms. Those who have visited will know that it has the best sandy beaches on the Yorkshire coast and it has sensational views of Flamborough Head. It also has a beautiful old town, which is something of a hidden gem.
Set back a mile-and-a-half from the seafront, not all visitors realise the historic area is there but it is well worth taking the time to find it. The highlight is the Georgian high street, which features heavily in Dad’s Army as Walmington-on-Sea.
This grade II listed property on Westgate “played” the chemist’s shop in the film and is in the heart of the old town. It is for sale with the Nicholas Belt estate agency for just £165,950. That’s another great thing about Brid, property prices are very reasonable.
Anyway, back to the house, which I would happily buy if only I was in a position to relocate. It is packed with period features and has a lovely walled garden with not just one but two sheds – my idea of heaven, of course.
You get an awful lot for the money inside too. There is an entrance hall, sitting room, dining room, kitchen, four double bedrooms and a bathroom. You can see that the owner loves the house too by the time and effort put into the decor.
