The trend towards veganism has well and truly caught on but even though Greggs has brought out a much-publicised vegan sausage roll and M&S has jumped on the bandwagon with its “Plant” range, it’s still fiendishly difficult to find cafes and restaurants with a good selection of, or indeed any, vegan items on the menu.
Anyone with a vegan in their life will have faced this problem, which is why I’m recommending my “go-to” place: a brilliant, totally vegan cafe – Humblest of Pleasures on Market Street in Hebden Bridge. It’s a real treat to be able to choose anything on the menu, which features everything from hearty breakfasts and main courses to snacks and the most delicious cakes. It’s open Tuesday to Sunday.
After a mooch round the fantastic independent shops in Hebden Bridge and a walk on ther canal, we head back down Market Street to stock up at the Saker Bakery, which also has a vegan range of takeaway pasties and cakes. As a vegan day out, it’s hard to beat.
