THIS WEEK: Dressed in Time, Saturday, April 6, 2pm at The Studio Theatre, Bradford. M&S history is brought to life using fashion and music to tell the story of the business, from a Leeds market stall to international retailer. Annual spring exhibition of two artists and designers devoted to the use of colour, Victoria Bellas Carter and Suzanne Tweddle. ON NOW: Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing, Leeds Art Gallery, The Headrow, Leeds and The Millennium Gallery, Sheffield, until May 6. To mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, two Yorkshire galleries will display selections of the Renaissance master’s greatest drawings. The Royal Collection Trust exhibition spans 12 UK cities and gives a very special opportunity to see Leonardo’s work up close. Leeds: Tues-Sat 10am-5pm; Sun 11am-3pm. Sheffield: Tues-Sat 10am-5pm; Sun 11am-4pm, open until 8pm every Thursday (except Mar 7&21). Among the works on display in Sheffield is Studies of water (c.1517-18). In this drawing Leonardo built up the image in stages, first creating an underlying structure of water currents in chalk and then adding little rosettes of bubbles on the surface in ink, almost as decoration. https://www.leeds.
ON NOW: Ceramic showcase by Anna Whitehouse – Sketching in Clay; 100 Bottles in 100 Days. A hundred bottles created by a Yorkshire ceramic artist on show today at The Leeds Craft Centre and Design Gallery, City Art Gallery, Leeds.
