It’s madness in my house – Stephanie here, by the way – with presents and gift wrap piling up in the bedroom. Not a thing wrapped.
Plus, I’ve got a skirt to take back to Jigsaw (impulse buy, totally unsuitable), fabric paint to buy (long story, but I reckon I can get it at Stephen H Smith near Otley, so I have to dash there), a party to attend, canapes to make etc etc etc. I’ve been thinking of attempting all of Nigella’s At My Christmas Table special recipes … possibly an ambitious endeavour.
Anyway, for my post this week, I’ve selected just five pictures representing stuff I have enjoyed this year, in the hope that they might prove useful for anyone in search of something to do or buy or make or dig out from the back of the under-stairs cupboard, over the festive period.
Find of the year has to be the Antiques, Curios and Salvage Barn at Four Lane End Farm, Burley Bank Road, a couple of miles out of Harrogate. Beautiful buys selected and brought back from across the world. A true revelation and well worth a visit. Check out The English Polisher website.
Special event of the year for me was the Great Yorkshire Show catwalk back in July. This is by James Steward, whose studio is in Wetherby. He does ready-to-wear and bespoke, like this.
I love the window displays and decor at Cordings of Piccadilly, which has its one and only store outside London in Harrogate on Parliament Street. It’s a lovely environment in which to buy yourself some very special country-inspired clothing and accessories.
Here is model and actress Hannah Muirhead wearing a fabulous vintage outfit from Rose and Brown Vintage, as part of a shoot we did at the Victoria Hall in Saltaire last month. I was reminded just how lovely Saltaire is, especially at Christmas.
Finally, if you are nipping across the border into Cumbria, go to Bowness and find Fab Interiors (it’s at the waterside, where the tourist boats leave). Full of decadently gorgeous stuff for the home.
