Wind, cold, and occasional rain, could not dampen spirits last Sunday, when my mum and I went to the Harrogate Spring Flower Show.
Mum turned out to be a pro at doing flower shows. I thought she was a bit bonkers when she produced this bright green plastic box on wheels thing, a plant trolley, but when we got there, hundreds of other people were wheeling them along too, and packing them with plants and garden bits and bobs.
We went a bit mad, actually. My mum bought lots of plants and bought me a rusted hanging bird feeder and three rusted huge ornamental leaves (I’ll post them when I’ve sorted out my garden). And I treated myself to a cast iron naked lady (classical, of course).
Anyway, we especially loved The GREENhouse, where plants and flowers took over rooms to create a crazy house filled with colour and texture. I’m going to let the pictures do the talking. The whole of Harrogate seemed to get involved, especially The Ivy, where florist extraordinaire Helen James decorated the doorway most decadently and gorgeously. The town is packed with flowers at the moment. And the cherry blossom is finally blooming on The Stray.
I’m already looking forward to the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, which takes place September 14-16 at the Great Yorkshire Showground. Tickets on sale now here: https://www.flowershow.org.uk/
