I’ve been a vegetarian for decades so I’ve lived through the days when a cheese salad was the only option when eating out. Now, most cafes and restaurants have a couple of choices for us non-meat eaters, which is great, but what’s really stupendous is finding somewhere where I can have everything on the menu. The Veggie in Ilkley is such a place.
I am giving this cafe 10/10 for the menu, the quality of the food, the service, the friendly feel and the fact that it also caters for vegans. Poor vegans often struggle to find places that bother to think about their diet.
I’ve tried and failed to get a table at The Veggie a couple of times so played safe and booked one for lunch when I visited Ilkley recently. I needn’t have as it wasn’t too busy when I arrived at about 1.30pm on a Saturday. That may be because it is holiday time. Another thing to note is the opening times, which are 11am to 4pm Tuesday to Friday and 9.30am to 4pm on Saturdays.
I had the veggie mezze, which was fantastic and included the best hummous ever. My daughter had the Warm, stuffed and toasted pitta with homemade falafels. Always in need of a coffee, I had one here and it too was excellent.
Spoilt for choice, we did spend a long time deliberating excitedly over what to eat and drink so apologies to the staff, who were friendly and efficient. We will be back.
