The news that John Lewis is set to open in Leeds on October 20 has been causing such excitement here at Gorgeous Yorkshire Cottage, we’re almost fit to burst, and having to restrain ourselves from making endless expensive visits to the lovely York branch that we already have (you can’t have too much John Lewis).
It’s lovely to hear that John Lewis Leeds will be stocking some of our favourite Yorkshire labels, including fragrance and lifestyle company Neom Organics and cashmere fashion brand Pure Collection, both based in Harrogate.
The retailer will also be supporting smaller Yorkshire designers and crafters through its link with Harrogate-based The Great British Exchange, sourcing locally designed or made products for the new Leeds store. Unveiled this week, the ‘Made Locally’ project will showcase and stock more than 120 products from 11 local Yorkshire suppliers, all of which are based within a 30 mile radius of Leeds. The products will also be available on johnlewis.com, making them available to shoppers across the country.
The Great British Exchange (GBE) launched in 2014 and sources artisanal products from new designers, established makers, independent businesses and British-based factories. It provides direct support to ensure their products are available in national retailers.
The Yorkshire suppliers and products sourced by GBE for John Lewis Leeds include home-fragrance brand The Harrogate Candle Company, Masons Yorkshire Gin, Martha and Hepsie, Myroo, The Art Rooms, Bags by Butterfly Tree, Tipple Tails, Jolly Smith, Jane Katherine Houghton, Little Red Berry and Yorkshire Deli. We’ll have more on these before John Lewis Leeds opens.
John Lewis Leeds will also stock clothes from local Yorkshire fashion designers D’Albert and Cabba, which is very exciting, and we’ll have more on this too.
Meanwhile, we were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of John Lewis’s autumn/winter collection at its press show in London back in April, and these are the images you see here, from home, with more images to come from fashion later.
The lighting was especially gorgeous. Well, actually, it was all gorgeous. We just wanted to move in.
