This is the notice I found today stuck on the outside of the now sadly dark and empty window of Ramus Seafood Emporium, the shop on King’s Road Harrogate which closed so suddenly earlier this month. Its message is well worth us all considering. “SHOP LOCAL” it urges, then sets out in an eloquent and succinct manner exactly why we should and must. I have no idea who wrote this, but well done to them.
Lovely shops like the ones on King’s Road in Harrogate bring colour, energy, safety, companionship, enterprise and LIFE to our neighbouthoods. We must use them or lose them.
Sooooooo … maybe a bit random but here is a Valentine’s Day themed celebration of the shops, businesses and cafes on King’s Road. I’ve taken a few Valentine’s-y photos to go with. If you haven’t visited the King’s Road Parade yet, or you haven’t been lately, please go see – and pick up something for a loved one, or yourself.
Thanks to them all because they are doing a great job. They are (starting with, from the corner of King’s Road and Chatsworth Place and then moving along up towards Skipton Road): Kingsgrove Hair & Beauty; Cafe Divine; Victoria Lane fashion shop; Graham Sanderson Interiors; Shine Jewellery and Gifts; Regal Florists; Regal Fruiterers; Santar Deli; Kushi Tandoori; Bobbins & Bolts; Pizzaficio; Lloyds Pharmacy (not an indie but very very useful and lovely staff); Change Mobility (I’m sure I’ll need a mobility scooter soon enough); Little Breads sandwich shop; Giftery gift shop; Mandies Hair & Beauty; Rugs of Harrogate; Just B St Michael’s fashion frocks & accessories shop with pre-loved high-end and designer fashion; Magic Meat Polish deli shop with fab pierogi; Elizabeth Robinson (chiropractice, physiotherapy, beauty, hair); Shanghai Therapy; Gather & Stow (lovely vintage finds there); McBride & Sons funeral parlour; Twisted Cakes; and on the other side of the road, Sainsburys Local (much needed, open til late); St Michael’s Hospice shop; China Garden takeaway; Crown Barber Shop; EPS Interiors Bathroom Studio; Capello; Vitality; and Joana Bridal Boutique. Apologies if I have missed anyone – email firstname.lastname@example.org if you need us. Happy local shopping!
