La Mesa Escondida is proof that something special can be found in quite unexpected places. It means The Hidden Table in Spanish and it’s the name of a restaurant in Ibiza – and, for two nights only, in Harrogate, at the Cedar Court Hotel.
Tonight, Friday 1st March, and tomorrow, or Saturday 2nd March, La Mesa Escondida is appearing as a pop-up restaurant at Cedar Court, which has a sister hotel, the Petunia Ibiza in Ibiza.
The restaurant team has come over to create and present its incredible Italian dishes and dining experience. Yes, Italian, not Spanish. I went along last night to a special VIP preview night with my friend Jenni and we had the tasting menu. The standout dish for me was the Black Tortelli with Seabass and Orange (Sorrento/Campania) (£15.50), which is squid ink black tortelli with a seabass and orange zest filling and the most amazing orange flavoured butter sauce. Delicious.
I now simply have to go to Ibiza to find the original La Mesa Escondida. Here’s what its website says: “Open year-round, in our restaurant and secret garden, we serve traditional Italian recipes prepared with only the freshest ingredients, love and mastery. Our dishes & flavours will take you back to your grandma’s kitchen. At La Mesa Escondida we believe that food tastes better when you are happy & feel comfortable.
Amen to that. Take a look for yourself here: https://www.lamesaescondida.com/ Cedar Court is also running a competition to win Two Night Stay For Two at the Petunia Ibiza in Ibiza, Spain.
Anyway, this was a really interesting and tasty night, so I just wanted to do a quick blog to say, if you fancy trying something a bit different, book in and go. But you will have to be quick. As I say, it’s just tonight and tomorrow.
