Hannah Nunn is best known for her pretty paper-cut lighting inspired by a love of nature.
She makes everything from shades and table lamps to wall lights and fairy lights, and recently branched out with a fabulous range of wallpapers (we covet her Paper Meadow in charcoal).
Hannah, who studied Crafts at Carmarthen College in West Wales, has a studio and shop in Hebden Bridge, where she sells her own work along with a selection from other designer makers.
Radiance, on Market Street, is a wondrous little store and its contents are, says Hannah, chosen for “their artistry, creativity, warmth and soul”. We defy you not to be wowed by them.
So how did this success story begin?
“I made a range of paper-cut greetings cards which made it to Liberty, Harrods, Paperchase and many beautiful craft galleries across the country. Whilst holding my paper cuts up to the light to enjoy the silhouettes, the idea of making lamps seemed the next exciting step,” says Hannah.
The Arts Council supported her with a Research and Development grant and she launched her first collection at the British Craft Trade Fair in in 2003. Not surprisingly, it was a huge hit.
Hannah recently wrote a book about contemporary lighting, shining a spotlight on some of the best designers worldwide. Illuminate is published by Bloomsbury.
You can buy Hannah’s lighting and wallaper in Radiance, 26 Market Street, Hebden Bridge.
