It’s been hellishly busy trying to get work done and dusted ready for a few days off over the festive period but a little piece of Christmas cheer landed on my doormat this week – the new Kate Rusby CD – Holly Head. This is Kate’s fifth Christmas album and it’s a real cracker, though to be honest she could sing anything and it would sound sublime. There’s a reason why she is known as the Barnsley nightingale.
The very first words she sings are “People awake; salute the happy morn” so perfect for playing full blast on Christmas Day morning. My favourite track is “I am Christmas, which goes “I am Christmas/I am light/And I am kith and kin/I am Christmas, let me in”.
Kate is also on tour and I can testify she is fantastic live. She is at York Barbican on December 18, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall on the 20th and The Sage, Gateshead on December 21.
