So many wonderful events in Yorkshire have been cancelled due to the pandemic but necessity is the mother of invention and many organisers have dreamed up new ways of bringing music, art and performances to use. The latest is the 2020 North Yorkshire Open Studios, which was set to run this weekend, June 6 and 7 and next June 13 and 14.
We can’t, of course, visit the studios in person but you can many of them online. Over 60 artists, designers and makers have made videos of their studios and their work. You can find them all and more here at www.nyos.org.uk You can also show your support by buying their work and/or sharing it on social media. You will be spoilt for choice because, as we know, Yorkshire is a hotbed of creative talent.
Among those taking part in online studio tours this weekend contemporary furniture designer George Gold. His video will be live on 11.20am on Sunday, June 7. George has his workshop in Pickering and his latest collection features a gorgeous stool/table made from steam-bent beech with a seat in Formica or woven rattan. It costs from £197. Another favourite of ours is artist/printmaker Michael Atkin and we have fallen in love with his latest print, The Rookery. Michael creates limited edition etchings, lino prints, fine art books and wood engravings. You can see and read more about him here www.michaelatkin.co.uk
