Money doesn’t buy you good taste but the owners of this fabulous Yorkshire home are obviously blessed with both a healthy bank balance and a great sense of style.
Firby Hall, near Bedale, is a perfect example of classic country house decor with a 21st century twist. The price tag for this glorious, grade two listed pile is £4.6m, which makes it around £4.3m out of our price bracket (and that’s stretching our budget), but we like to dream.
Strutt and Parker’s Harrogate office has detailed what we can look forward to if we win the Lottery:
Firby Hall stands beautifully within its own parkland with landscaped gardens and grounds overlooking the lakes and open fields. It comes with approximately 57 acres.
The property was constructed in 1788 by Colonel Thomas Coores who, on his return from fighting in the American War of Independence, demolished much of the village of Firby to build the hall and improve the views from the house.
This handsome and impressive country house has recently undergone a complete renovation. The project involved input from local planners and conservation groups resulting in a house full of architectural details to the highest standard, cutting edge home technology and spaciously appointed accommodation.
On the ground floor there is a reception hall, inner stairacse hall, snug, drawing room, dining room, kitchen with dining and sitting area, utility, two offices, two cloakrooms, boot room and a walk-in pantry.
On the first floor, there is a master suite with bedroom, bathroom and dressing room, two bedroom suites with bedroom, sitting room and bathroom, two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a house bathroom and a laundry room. On the second floor, there is a double bedroom with dressing area and a bathroom.
The cellars contain a wine store and boiler room.
The hall also comes with a four bedroom cottage, landscaped gardens designed by Marco Schrang, garaging for eight cars, stabling and a barn.
