Calling all brides and grooms! The National Vintage Wedding Fair comes to Harrogate this Sunday, February 16, 2014.
Taking place at the Old Swan Hotel, itself a magnificent wedding venue, the National Vintage Wedding Fair is a wonderful celebration of the magical and timeless appeal of weddings, promising plenty of opportunity for prospective brides and grooms – and their parents, bridesmaids, groomsmen and guests – to find inspiration to plan something a little bit different for their perfect Big Day.
The vintage wedding trend continues to go from strength to strength, which is no surprise, offering as it does the very real opportunity to infuse a marriage celebration with personal touches, authenticity and heritage, mixing in family heirlooms with inspirational themes, ideas and objects that capture the very essence of eternal love and romance.
The National Vintage Wedding Fair features more than 50 specialist exhibitors and suppliers covering cakes and table decorations to flowers and music suggestions. There will, of course, be plenty of gorgeous vintage gowns there too, plus shoes, tiaras, jewellery, bags, clothing and accessories for grooms and their supporting men, and lots of demonstrations and advice, including for hair, beauty and make-up.
It’s all run by Discover Vintage, the fabulous retro and vintage specialists, launched in 2009 by Keeley Harris, who is now a bit of a legend in the vintage world. She is organiser of the fabulous Festival of Vintage at York Racecourse (the next one is in April), which attracts more than 5,000 visitors. Keeley is a true expert, a vintage dealer and event organiser who also gives talks, stages fashion shows and sells vintage fashion, furniture, homewares and curios online. Keeley and Discover Vintage are award-winning too, with recent trophies including Best Vintage Wedding Fair in the National Vintage Awards, Antiques Young Guns Runner Up, and the Vintage Emporium shortlisted for Vintage Shop of the year.
After spotting a gap in the market and wanting to bring diverse vintage wedding specialists all under one roof, Keeley launched the UK’s first National Vintage Wedding Fair in February 2010 – on Valentine’s Day. It next goes to London on February 23. Whether you want ideas for beautiful bouquets, cakes or wedding tables, or perhaps you want to make sure your day is all documented with a Hollywood movie style video, or you want to know how to create an updated make-up look to go with your lovely vintage gown, you will find it all on the one day, and in the one place. It’s the perfect opportunity to try out vintage wedding dresses from different eras, from Gatsby beaded styles and the long and languid silk bias-cut gowns of the 1950s, through to 1950s full-skirted styles, 1960s column dresses and Florence Welch style floaty dresses from the 1970s.
