One of my best, most beautiful buys last year was a handmade terracotta plant pot from Leaf and Loaf in Welburn. It cost just £6 and holds a hardy little chive. The plant and the pot have coped with every of extreme of weather from blazing sun to wind, ice and snow.
Leaf and Loaf is in the centre of the village, which is close to Castle Howard in North Yorkshire, and it is a multi-functional gem. It’s an artisan bakery, deli and cafe with its own pottery studio.
So along with homemade bread, cakes, quiches and pastries, you can buy handmade plant pots, mugs, jugs and bowls…all handthrown on a potters wheel.
This independent business is very proud of the provenance of its products. Almost everything is sourced locally, including the coffee, which is blended in Yorkshire, and its apple juice, which is from an co-operative of orchards in Husthwaite.
Leaf and Loaf is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 3pm in winter and until 3.30pm in summer.
